The Best Broccoli Casserole Recipe

This broccoli casserole has soft broccoli florets in a handmade cheese sauce and a buttery cracker topping. A simple, make-ahead recipe for everyday or holiday dinners.  

– 6 cups broccoli floret – 1/2 cup onion finely diced – 1/4 cup butter – 1/4 cup flour – 2 cups milk I use whole milk – 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided use – 2 ounces cream cheese cut into small cube – 1 teaspoon salt – 1/2 teaspoon pepper – 1 teaspoon smoked paprika – 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder – 1 cup crushed crackers such as Ritz – 2 tablespoons chopped parsley – cooking spray


Boil salty water. Simmer broccoli for 2-3 minutes till brilliant green.Place broccoli in ice water. Drain and pat broccoli dry after chilling.  


Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Use cooking spray on a 2-quart baking dish.  

Step 2

Melt butter in a pot on medium. Add onion and sauté 3–4 minutes until translucent. Cook onions for 1 minute after adding flour.  

Step 3

Slowly add milk to the pan. Stir occasionally for 4-5 minutes to thicken sauce (coating spoon).  

Step 4

Add 2 cups shredded cheddar, cream cheese, salt, pepper, smoky paprika, and garlic powder to the sauce. Smoothly stir.Put broccoli in a huge bowl.   

Step 5

Coat topping evenly with sauce. Smooth the pan-top broccoli mixture. Crush crackers and top with remaining cup of cheese.  

Step 6

Bake 20–30 minutes until casserole bubbles and cheese melts. Add parsley and serve.
